Chris Brown Files $500 Million Lawsuit Against Warner Bros. Discovery Over Sexual Assault Documentary
Chris Brown has filed a $500 million defamation lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery over their documentary "Chris Brown: A History of Violence," released in October 2024. The documentary features allegations of sexual assault from an anonymous dancer who claims Brown raped her on a yacht in 2020.

Brown's legal team argues that the film contains "defamatory" and "baseless" claims that have "recklessly damaged" his reputation. They state that despite warning producers about "misleading" and "discredited" allegations, Warner Bros. Discovery proceeded with the release, "prioritizing profits over journalistic integrity."
The lawsuit specifically challenges three claims from the documentary:
- The assertion that Brown has a "predisposition for punching women in the face"
- The dancer's rape allegation
- Claims about manipulated text messages shared with law enforcement
The anonymous dancer previously sued Brown for $20 million in 2022, claiming he drugged and raped her at a Miami yacht party at Sean "Diddy" Combs' property. That case was dismissed by a judge.
While Brown's lawyers emphasize he has "never been found at fault for any type of sexual crime," his legal history includes several violence-related incidents:
- 2009: Pleaded guilty to assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna
- 2014: Pleaded guilty to punching a man outside a Washington, D.C. hotel
- 2016: Faced assault allegations at a Las Vegas casino (insufficient evidence for charges)
- 2017: Court-ordered to stay away from ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran after death threats
