Diddy and Jay-Z Launch Legal Battle Against Lawyer Who Accused Them in Dismissed Rape Case
Sean 'Diddy' Combs and Jay Z have launched legal action against attorney Tony Buzbee following the dismissal of a rape case that accused them of assaulting a 13-year-old after the 2000 MTV VMAs.

The rappers are pursuing lawsuits in both federal court (New York) and state court (California), alleging unauthorized legal practices and defamation by Buzbee. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mark Epstein noted that Buzbee's social media activity, particularly his engagement with posts implicating Jay Z, suggests potential actual malice.

The controversy escalated when a Texas lawyer amended the original filing in December 2024, identifying Jay Z as "Celebrity A" alongside Combs. This forced Jay Z to publicly deny involvement, though the plaintiff ultimately withdrew the case on February 14, 2025.

With prominent attorney Camille Vasquez joining their legal team, Combs and Jay Z are now focused on holding Buzbee accountable. The upcoming hearings in late March could establish significant precedents for celebrity legal cases and professional conduct standards.
