Maurene Comey, the prosecutor who helped secure Ghislaine Maxwell's conviction in 2021, has joined the Department of Justice's sex trafficking case against Sean "Diddy" Combs. Comey, daughter of former FBI director James Comey, officially joined the prosecution team on Monday.

Prior to her career as a prosecutor, Comey clerked for a federal judge in New York and worked at Debevoise & Plimpton. Her addition to the case comes as Combs was denied bail for a third time, with the court citing his alleged history of violence and witness intimidation.

The defense team, led by Marc Agnifilo, continues to challenge the prosecution. They recently moved to exclude evidence allegedly leaked to the media, including 2016 hotel surveillance footage showing Combs assaulting former girlfriend Cassie Ventura. The court has ordered prosecutors to submit an affidavit confirming they were not the source of the leaks.

Agnifilo, known for representing high-profile defendants including Martin Shkreli and NXIVM leader Keith Raniere, maintains Combs' innocence. The defense claims the Department of Homeland Security leaked the surveillance video to CNN to influence the grand jury and compromise Combs' right to a fair trial.
