TikTok Dominates US Social Media With 107 Minutes Daily Usage Despite Federal Ban
TikTok users in the US are spending an average of 107 minutes daily on the app as of January, significantly outperforming other social media platforms despite recent federal restrictions.

According to recent data from Guggenheim Partners and Apptopia, TikTok's engagement rates surpass both YouTube (87 minutes) and Facebook (63 minutes) by considerable margins. Nearly half (47%) of TikTok's daily users qualify as "superusers," spending over an hour on the platform each day.
This strong performance comes despite ongoing regulatory challenges. A federal law signed by President Biden requires ByteDance, TikTok's Chinese parent company, to sell its US operations by January 19, 2025, or face a ban. The requirement stems from concerns about potential data sharing with the Chinese government.
While former President Trump has granted a 75-day extension to find a US buyer, both ByteDance and Chinese authorities remain opposed to a sale.
For teen users specifically, YouTube maintains its lead as the most popular platform, with 73% of American teens (ages 13-17) using it daily, compared to TikTok's 57% and Instagram's 50%, according to Pew Research data from December.
