Key aspects of the FTC rule include:
- Mandatory display of total prices including all fees
- Prominent presentation of total price over other pricing information
- Prohibition of hidden charges and deceptive advertising
- Required accurate, upfront pricing information
Live Nation, which has already implemented all-in pricing at its venues and festivals, welcomed the industry-wide mandate, stating it will increase transparency for fans and potentially boost artist sales by reducing abandoned purchases at checkout.
FTC Chair Lina M. Khan emphasized the rule's importance, noting that consumers deserve transparency in pricing without unexpected fees. The commission expects the rule to:
- Save consumers approximately $11 billion over 10 years
- Reduce price-searching time by 53 million hours annually
The rule passed with a 4-1 vote, with Commissioner Andrew Ferguson casting the sole dissenting vote.
