Oracle appears to be the leading candidate to manage TikTok's US operations, with the April deadline for finalizing a US-based sale approaching rapidly.

The Texas-based tech company Oracle has emerged as the frontrunner to serve as TikTok's cloud technology partner in the United States. TikTok has already been using Oracle's servers for US data storage since 2022, making them a natural fit for this expanded role.

ByteDance, TikTok's Chinese parent company, reportedly favors Oracle over other cloud providers, according to sources familiar with the matter. However, ByteDance still desires to maintain significant involvement in TikTok's US operations, working alongside Oracle as a partner.

This arrangement faces potential challenges, as ByteDance's continued involvement is precisely what prompted US government concerns about national security, leading to the mandate for a US-based buyer.

Meanwhile, TikTok is implementing new safety measures, particularly for younger users:

  • A "wind down" reminder for users under 16 using the app after 10 PM
  • Calming music and meditation exercises to encourage mindful usage
  • Enhanced Family Pairing features allowing parents to:
    • Set specific time restrictions
    • Monitor their child's followers and following
    • View blocked accounts
    • Establish recurring usage schedules

These safety implementations come as TikTok works to address concerns raised by both technology experts and government officials while its future in the US market remains uncertain.
