TikTok has returned to both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store following clarification from the U.S. Department of Justice regarding potential fines. The restoration comes less than a month after the initial ban took effect.

The Biden administration's ban included a $5,000 fine per download for platform owners who continued offering TikTok after January 19. Both Apple and Google removed the app from their stores on that date until receiving assurance from U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi that they would not face penalties under the current administration.

While Android users could still access TikTok through sideloading during the ban, iOS users had no alternative download method. This was particularly significant as Sensor Tower data shows the Apple App Store accounted for 52% of TikTok downloads last year, with Google Play making up the remaining 48%.

President Trump has assigned Vice President J.D. Vance and National Security Adviser Michael Waltz to oversee the sale of TikTok's U.S. operations. While the original 75-day deadline for finding a U.S. partner could be extended, Trump indicated this may not be necessary. Multiple potential buyers have expressed interest in acquiring the social media platform.

The President also suggested TikTok could potentially become part of a new U.S. sovereign wealth fund. With the app's return to major app stores, the immediate crisis appears to have subsided while longer-term ownership questions remain under discussion.
