TikTok Sale Race Heats Up: MrBeast, Frank McCourt Among Potential Buyers as Deadline Looms
TikTok faces multiple potential buyers as it remains banned from major app stores, with several high-profile figures and organizations emerging as potential suitors.
YouTube star Jimmy Donaldson (MrBeast) expressed interest in acquiring TikTok to prevent its ban, claiming several billionaires have approached him about a possible partnership. While Donaldson is named in an investor group's all-cash offer led by Jesse Tinsley, his spokesperson Matthew Hiltzik clarified that no formal bid has been made yet.

Billionaire Frank McCourt's Project Liberty consortium has offered to share ownership, provided TikTok operates on their Decentralized Social Networking Protocol (DSNP). This proposal aims to address concerns about user data collection and targeted advertising practices.
ByteDance, TikTok's current owner, is exploring alternatives to maintain operations in the United States without selling the platform. Board member Bill Ford suggested at the World Economic Forum in Davos that solutions might include "a change of control of some kind" while keeping the company intact.
The urgency for a resolution stems from President Biden's federal ban, recently upheld by the Supreme Court. Apple and Google have removed TikTok from their app stores, as they face potential fines of $5,000 per download after January 19.
